A Online Application for membership
A1 By your online application you hereby make application for membership of United Workers and the relevant state branch (your United Workers Branch) from today’s date.
A2 You agree to abide by the United Workers Rules and the policies of United Workers, as they may be amended from time to time.
A3 By proceeding with this online application, you request and authorise United Workers to be your representative in the negotiation and settlement of the terms and conditions of your employment and to act as bargaining agent on your behalf with your employer in all matters affecting your employment. This authorisation will remain in force until you withdraw it by giving your United Workers Branch one month’s notice in writing of your intention to do so
B Financial Obligations
B1 You agree to pay membership contributions, dues and subscriptions including fines, fees, levies, in accordance with United Workers Rules, as they may be amended from time to time, including rules 15, 51, 66 and those of your United Workers Branch.
B2 The United Workers Rules and the union’s administrative arrangements give recognition to your financial status so that there is no requirement to pay more than one membership fee in any financial year of membership. The membership fee payable is shown when filling in this online application
C Resignation
C1 If at any time you wish to resign from United Workers this will be done by written notice sent by standard post or fax (not email) to and received by your United Workers Branch. A resignation applies at the expiry of 2 weeks after the notice is received or on the day specified in the notice, whichever is later.
C2 In the event of resignation from United Workers you shall be liable for all membership subscriptions, fines, levies and dues owing by you to United Workers and/or your United Workers Branch to the date from which the resignation applies and thereafter no further claim by United Workers or your United Workers Branch on you shall arise.
D Privacy conditions
D1 You understand that United Workers will comply with the National Privacy Principles in respect to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information received from individuals, as required under the Privacy Act 1998. This will include reasonable primary and secondary use of your personal information for union communications or union sponsored activities.
E Standing Order Credit Card Authorisations for recurring payment
(applies only if Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation option is selected)
E1 By selecting the Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation option and completing the online application for membership you are making the Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation for Recurring Payments.
E2 By making a Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation for a recurring payment:
(a) You authorise United Workers to verify with the relevant identified financial institution the account details you have provided and you authorise the Financial Institution to release information allowing United Workers to verify account details you have provided;
(b) you agree that the authority shall stand, in respect of any such credit card issued to you in renewal or replacement thereof, until you notify United Workers in writing of the cancellation of the authorisation;
(c) you agree that you will ensure that there are sufficient available funds in your credit card account to cover the periodic deductions; and,
(d) you acknowledge that your Financial Institution may charge you a dishonour fee if there are insufficient available funds in your credit card account to cover a debit transaction; and,
E3 If you believe that there has been an error in debiting your credit card account you will contact the Financial Institution promptly so that your query can be addressed as quickly as possible.
F Direct Debit Requests
(applies only if Direct Debit option is selected)
F1 By completing the online application for membership and selecting the Direct Debit option and providing account details you are signing the Direct Debit Request.
F2 By completing the online application for membership and selecting the Direct Debit option you are entering into the Direct Debit Request Service Agreement with United Workers:
G Refund Policy
United Workers will only make refunds of membership contributions, dues or subscriptions where there has been an error in deduction from your account up to a maximum of three months worth of membership contributions, dues or subscriptions unless otherwise authorised by the Branch Secretary of your United Workers Branch.
H Grievance Handling
United Workers will only handle issues or disputes which arise during membership.
J Electronic communication
By proceeding with this online application for membership:
(a) you consent to the membership application and any credit card authority or direct debit request contemplated in this application being effected by electronic communication;
(b) you intend that and consent to the requirement of a signature upon this application for membership and upon any Direct Debit Request or Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation contemplated in this application being satisfied by the your completion of this online application;
(c) you acknowledge that this method of electronic signature is appropriate in all the circumstances of this application for membership; and,
(d) you consent to United Workers sending to you, at the email address you have provided, a copy of these terms and conditions and any Standing Order Credit Card Authorisation for Recurring Payments or Direct Debit Request and Direct Debit Request Service Agreement created in the process of your online application for membership of United Workers
